CHRISTIANE LEMIEUX: THE BEST OF NEW YORK CITY
Author, designer, and all over style maven Christiane Lemieux has certainly made her mark on the design world, which is why we just had to get her top picks for the ever-chic NYC neighborhood of Soho. Author of the beautiful edition “The Finer Things,” Christiane has honed in on that perfectly refined classic, yet stylish chic.
Her latest venture as the co-founder of Cloth & Company, a new Made in the USA customizable furniture brand, brings her love of style and craft into the 21st century with exciting new fabrication technologies, like 3D imaging and fabric printing. The idea behind the company is to put design back into the hands of designers and clients, so that they can create perfect custom pieces for any room. Nothing is made until it is designed, which means that these pieces truly are unique. And because of new fabrication methods, nothing has to be produced in bulk, meaning less waste and less strain on the environment, which is always a good thing.
DRESS
I love mixing everything. High and low fashion with vintage. I scour my neighborhood looking for the perfect mix. My favorites these days are simple pieces from Rag and Bone, Cos or Helmut Lang mixed with Isabelle Marant or an interesting vintage find from What Goes Around Comes or Around. For special things, I head to Warm, Zero by Maria Cornejo or sometimes Marni. I will pass DeVera sometimes just to linger over their beautiful jewels both antique and new. The thing about living in Soho is that everything is in walking distance from my house… I can find the perfect anything on the way home from the grocery store. It’s dangerous and exciting at the same time.
DINE
There are so many delicious places in walking distance from my doorstep. Sadelle’s for bagels, the lovely Charlie Bird and my favorite macrobiotic, Souen. I also love the standards like Indochine, Balthazar and Sant Ambroeus – they never disappoint. My go-to place right now is Loring Place – the amazing new restaurant from my friend and great chef Dan Kluger. What that man does with a vegetable is poetry.
LIVE
I live at McNally Jackson – the book shop on Prince Street. It is my office when I need to get away. They have every great design book and magazine I could every want. I can spend hours there just reading and researching. What is better than flipping through a really beautiful book?
DECORATE
There are so many beautiful places I visit on a regular basis for inspiration. My favorites are M. Crow by BDDW on Crosby – they have the best dining tables on the market. I adore the lighting at Ochre on Broome and I will always pass Flair on Grand Street to see their gorgeous vintage finds.
