Short and Sweet #9: Fornasetti's whimsical wallpaper
Piero Fornasetti has always inspired awe and magic through his fantastical illustrations and textiles. And now, with the release of the latest collection of Cole & Son wallpaper, you can transform any room into a wonderful masterpiece a la Fornasetti! I am definitely in awe of these illustrations, aren’t you? I will never forget the first time I saw the “cloud” wallpaper at Liberty in London that I have previously written about. The details in the illustration are superb. What makes it so exciting to me is that each one feels so cheeky yet chic. Hard to strike that balance.
Carrying on his father’s great tradition, Barnaba Fornasetti launched the much acclaimed Fornasetti II collection with the English wallpaper experts at the 2013 Maison&Objet in Paris, after the success of the debut collection back in 2008.
The newest collection (available now through http://www.cole-and-son.com) pairs 14 of Fornasetti’s fantastic designs, all of which take you on a magical ride throughout the late designers imagination – from a Mediterranean seaside village or the depths of a well collected library, to delicate flowers and natural abstractions – with a beautiful and contemporary palette of muted reds and purples, perfect greys, and pops of crystal blue or pastel pink. I can’t think of a better way to add some whimsy to those walls!
