Now that I’m back from my European adventure, I’m already thinking about my next trip! I am headed to Paris and London in the coming months and it was through my research for that trip that I came across this fabulous ceramicist who has taken the Parisian restaurant scene by storm! Named one of “the prettiest restaurant plates” by the New York Times, Isabel’s delicate, yet edgy designs are my current ceramic obsession. I think you will agree with me that her creations are incredible.
Isabelle has worked for almost ten years perfecting the art of the non-perfect, exploring handmade, naturalistic forms in porcelain and clay, while maintaining their full functionality as dinnerware, lighting, or other design objects. Which is why chefs like Michelin star rated Sylvestre Wahid of the super chic Hotel Thoumieux are so keen to work with her to develop custom collections. I’m sure many are drawn to her mix of functionality and free form expression, but she also has collaborated with many of these chefs to create the perfect setting for their wild and innovative offerings. The resulting pieces are just as beautiful as the amazing meals plated on them!
She has also brought her dynamic touch to lighting and wall sculptures at high end hotels around Europe, creating warm, beautiful atmospheres with her fluid sculptural pieces. I just love how some of her pieces can be so natural and raw, while others are high-gloss and shine, like her Timbales collection of espresso cups. She’s got a piece for every mood! I might just have to follow suite with these top notch chefs and fill my kitchen with Isabelle Poupinel!
