I have a long standing love affair with calligraphy. As a kid, I was rather obsessed with it. I tried my hand at script when writing a card to just about anyone and for any reason. Nowadays that makes me a little sad as it is rare that I write anything at all. People just type emails or text each other. It made me think, why not bring calligraphy back into a favor a little? It seems the only time I see calligraphy on a card is for a wedding invitation, and even that is a rare occurrence.
I was rather thrilled when I read about a calligraphy workshop hosted by Cereal Magazine and Meticulous Ink at the Ace Hotel in London. I was sorry to have missed out on it but I am glad that sort of thing is happening in this day and age. While poking around on the topic of calligraphy, I found a few more current calligraphers that I will share with you as we explore this topic further. One of them is named Paul Antonio Scribe and there are a few of this works pictured in this post. Wouldn’t it be nice to learn how to do this and be able to send out your own party invites in hand drawn script?
Haven’t heard of anyone doing a calligraphy crash course here in NYC, but I will keep my eyes peeled for it. Please let me know if you hear of anything of that sort happening as well. Anywhere! We will definitely sign up if we can and are certain to write about it.
