Design Crush: Sean Anderson
THE MEMPHIS-BASED DESIGNER MIXES MOODY HUES WITH STRIKING DETAILS

It may be hard to believe by looking at his extensive list of beautiful projects, but designer Sean Anderson has only been at it professionally for the past five years! Though he had no training in the field, after moving to Memphis with his family Sean decided to take his love and passion for art and design to the next level. Don’t you just adore folks who take the plunge and build a business out of something they love? I think that is the formula for true success and happiness.

TURNING RICH, MOODY HUES INTO NEUTRALS.

What started as projects around his own family home, soon turned into a full blown studio with residential and commercial projects around the country. Sean has garnered a bit of a following of those who love moody, rich neutrals. I know, that seems a bit contradictory, but the way he is able to tone down a rich dark grey or brown with bright washes of texture and layers is just wonderful.

I also love the way he combines fascinating old antiques with more contemporary colors and key furniture pieces, as he did with the fabulous Memphis mansion of Muffy Turley, editor of The Scout Guide. With this project he was able to incorporate the client’s own extensive antique and art collection while also updating the history house to a comfortable, but totally chic contemporary home for six.

Many of my readers will know that there’s nothing I love more than a pop of rich grey to bring out fabulous details like brass lighting fixtures or worn wood furniture pieces. Needless to say I am already head over heels for these color palettes and I love that Sean seems to like them just as much as I do!
