This might be one of my most favorite discoveries. In fact, it may be one of my most favorite finds, ever. If you like cake, weddings, and flowers, this might be a match made in heaven. The epic talent I want to showcase here is Natasja Sadi, founder and baker at Cake Atelier Amsterdam, and she is the force behind some of the most amazing wedding cake and flower creations on earth. Natasja has always had an affinity for all aspects of a wedding. She states, “Ever since I was a little girl I’ve been madly in love with elegant princess dresses and fancy flower bouquets”. Flowers, however, are her favorite. In case you can’t tell already from the images in this post, that is evident!

CAN YOU BELIEVE THESE ARE SUGAR FLOWERS? All photos provided by Natasjai Sadi.
EVERY STAGE OF A FLOWER IS INSPIRATIONAL.

After twenty years as a wedding dress designer, Natasja began building creations of a different kind two years ago – wedding cakes. Inspired by the endless possibilities a little sugar, egg, and butter can create, she is now one of the most sought after bakers in Europe.

Natasja is known for her delicate and intricate keepsake sugar flowers. Aren’t they amazing? She thanks her design background for her attention to detail and ability to replicate the construction of each petal of a flower in the way that she does. I truly have never seen anything like it!

YES. THIS IS THE PRETTIEST CAKE YOU HAVE EVER SEEN.

But Sadi still advocates for having real flowers around as she finds pure joy when working in the company of the real blooms and credits living in Netherlands and the plethora of flowers in that country as her biggest inspiration. Her weekly trips to the flower market motivate her creations, no matter what stage of bloom the flower is in. Dissecting and inspecting each anatomical aspect of the flower is an important part of process in building sugar flowers.

She also recommends that more people should look into incorporating sugar flowers to their wedding cakes. They transition beautifully into keepsakes able to be cherished for years as long as they are kept from moisture.

IF PEOPLE WONDER WHAT IS REAL AND WHAT IS SUGAR? THAT IS WHEN I'M MOST EXCITED

Before we talk too much about sugar flowers, I want to talk about the magic that Natasja creates for all of us NOT ordering one of her wedding cakes. This can be enjoyed on Instagram. Allow me to explain. Natasja posts every Sunday some of the most spectacular flower arrangements I have ever seen. But they are real flowers and they are in some of the prettiest blue and white vases! So in addition to her sugar flower creation and her magical cakes, she really does continue to find inspiration in creating real floral arrangements and as I mentioned, these floral creations are posted to her Instagram every Sunday. I wait every Sunday for her post because it is always stunning and really highlight to my Sundays. Sadi admits, “I always thought it would be such a waste to not share my real flowers at home. Luckily so many agree!

Some of her most prized possessions include her collection of Delft Blue (a blue and white pottery made only in the Netherlands). Since she left school, collecting Delft Blue became a strong passion of hers. She now incorporates them in her arrangements. The combination of the blue and white, against real or sugar flowers, always make the flowers stand out in my arrangement. It enhances every color of bloom,” she says.

After reading this post, in the case that you don’t already follow Natasja, I think you will. You will find one of the most incredible Instagram feeds with the  most beautiful, inspiring arrangements of flowers that are all so detailed that it is hard to tell if they are bouquets or crafted from sugar. Sweet!
