That’s something I now realize I consistently gravitate towards. I guess one can come to this conclusion more pointedly at this moment in time as we are in our homes so much more. CRUSH CAMPAIGN #10: Kai and Sunny⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Let’s talk a little more about screenprinting, letterpress and the art of illustration. Quite a combination of disciplines and this duo from London named Kai and Sunny do it oh so well! Say that fast 10 times. (Wink.)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ @kaiandsunny are most inspired by natural forms they reduce to geometric patterns and figures and then translate into large-scale installations, hand-pulled screen prints infused with copper and stardust, and unique letterpress prints. CRUSH CAMPAIGN #9: Vetro Vero Glass⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I recall I stopped in my tracks and my jaw dropped when I first saw this display of @vetrovero glassware. Isn't it stunning? Vetro Vero has the steadfast mission to preserve traditional techniques and express creative innovation through obsessive excellence in design and craftsmanship. Case in point is this stemware. These mesmerizing hand blown glass creations are made in Pennsylvania by a husband and wife team, Michael Schunke and Josie Gluck. I have been a longtime fan of Vetro Vero and was thrilled to meet them at the AD show in NYC a little while back. What's even more unique is their studio, housed in a repurposed creamery building next to the farmhouse where they reside. Guess that means I have had a long term crush on this maker! I am always on the look out for designers that bring a haute couture sensibility to handmade production, which is exactly what @aurorajames has done with her innovative line of footwear called @BrotherVellies. I mean, look at the shoes in this image! That chic clutch! Love it! ➕ The original concept behind the brand is simple, to take the traditional African “vellie” shoe (what James describes as the ‘prototypical desert boot’) and add a contemporary spin. Since launching the line however, James has expanded to a variety of different styles, including sandals and women’s heels, boots, handbags and clutches. All of them are equally chic! ➕ Another reason to love Brother Vellies? The company’s commitment not only to the craftspeople who produce the shoes, but to sustainable methods is also very impressive. Brother Vellies has partnered with workshops in South Africa, Kenya, and Morocco for production, all of which use the original hand-made techniques that have been passed down for decades through generations of craftspeople. ➕ And if she couldn't be any more visionary, Aurora has started the @15percentpledge to encourage retailers to stock their shelves with 15% Black owned businesses! We went to the beach for a family walk after another day of distressing world news. We all needed some fresh air and another perspective. When we got to the ocean there was this really heavy mist in the air so we almost turned around. But we didn’t. Then we climbed the sand dunes and were greeted by this glorious site! Can you believe it? The beach was completely empty. Our son started dancing and none of us could stop grinning. It was like we were in Narnia. I still cannot believe it happened. Sadly, this photo doesn’t even come close to capturing the beauty. Trust me, it was epic. CRUSH CAMPAIGN #7: Westman Atelier⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ CRUSH CAMPAIGN #7: Westman Atelier⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Even though we are still quarantined and getting quite comfortable with our sweats, I still cannot resist some semblance of a post workout routine! These days that means at least covering up my ever-present under eye circles and applying mascara. In this case, I feel extra special when I am applying my new crush's products with her incredible handmade brushes! An artist at work. Look at this packaging! How chic does it look on my marble bathroom countertop? Very. It honestly makes me smile a bit more even on the "darker" days. @westmanatelier was was founded by @gucciwestman with a mission to make makeup brushes feel homemade. The collection comes together at Hakuhodo brush shop in Kumano, Japan, where "brush making is a true craft." I love it!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Inspired “to make it feel like a makeup artist is doing your makeup,” Gucci Westman has years (and tons of celebrity clients) under her belt to perfect the brush. She’s channeled these years into a namesake brand, @westmanatelier. She's seriously thought of everything, down to the details: shorter handles for easier control and feel, my personal favorite color combination of matte black, all packaged under white, cruelty-free nylon bristles, to which she issuses as a reminder: clean your brushes! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Anyone else feeling like that little bit of makeup makes a BIG difference these days? Sometimes, I just dress up a little for myself in the morning to keep some sort of routine going. Gah! I want this rug! I’m in search of a rug for Gah! I want this rug! I’m in search of a rug for our home office. Sadly, my dream rug and my reality ie. the post massive-gut-renovation-of-an-old-house budget don’t seem to align right now. In other words, no more money in the budget for a rug like this. Sadness! But a girl can dream! I’d rather leave the floor bare then sacrifice style and quality. Less is more. Buy once, buy what you love, make sure it’s produced the way it should be! Keep it always. I promise I would love this #handcrafted rug forever and always. It’s an heirloom! I am telling you this is the dream rug! Designed by one of my favorite designers the Lebanese-born, Paris dwelling @eliesaabworld for one of my favorite companies @therugcompany, I would buy without hesitation. Have I mentioned that yet? Haha. Some more details about this room that I’ve kept under wraps. The room is paneled and cozy, painted in a rich glossy dark blue paint. Wouldn’t this be perfect? I don’t need to ask. CRUSH CAMPAIGN #6: Richard Brendon 🖤⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ When I first came across @richardbrendonstudio, I could hardly believe that the adept designer and craftsman is a relative new-comer in a long line of British ceramics. His style is just impeccable, taking from the rich tradition of Stoke-on-Trent ceramics, and updating it in the most fabulously chic ways.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Brendon started his eponymous brand right out of design school in 2012, combining his background in design and ceramics with his love for antiques. Growing up in Notting Hill going to Portobello Road to see what new and curious things he could find, Brendon was always drawn to the traditions and history of British craft.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Fun fact: Richard Brendon has created a bespoke line of Superstripe bone china for the afternoon tea service at @corinthiahotels London. The contemporary yet timeless collection, designed in collaboration with pattern innovators PATTERNITY, has been adapted in grey and red to complement the interior of the hotel and reference the beautiful Baccarat chandelier that hangs in the Crystal Moon Lounge. The tea service is of the highest quality bone china and entirely handmade by master craftsmen in Stoke-on-Trent, England.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Who knew china and crystal could be such close cousins? Perhaps in the ones pictured since today's crush is a shoutout to the overall design industry and their amazing outpouring of generosity for an incredible cause. In fact, today you can buy one of these amazing chairs by one of my design heroines @cristinacelestino for @billianidesign and donate all the proceeds to charity! Allow me to explain. If you are a design fanatic like myself, you might want to check out the online auction catalogue for Design Loves Milano. Since April’s Milan Design Week was forced to cancel due to a global pandemic, today the city is instead hosting a congregation of international creative talent and championing a wonderfully worthy cause. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #DesignLovesMilano will give buyers around the world the opportunity to pick up some beautiful furniture and in doing so, support Milan’s Luigi Sacco Hospital to which all proceeds will be donated. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The auction list is drool-worthy and includes donations from celebrated contemporary designers, such as work by Milan-based Cristina Celestino (pictured) and Faye Toogood, alongside classic pieces from Ettore Sottsass and other stars of not only Italian but global designers. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The outpouring of items donated by designers was so great that the organisers had to stop accepting their donations! Clearly the name did justice to the cause proving that the design world truly does love Milano!
