Bam! Flowers! Giambattista Valli has created the most magical haute couture collection this season. Well, he does manage this every season so it seems. And guess what? You could see this magic in person if you’re in Paris right now. He’s opened the doors to the public to see firsthand these creations! Say what?!? You’re a genius @giambattistavalli! This Roman living in Paris seemingly has a never ending ability to create gowns that are both ethereal and modern, floral and feminine yet never overly dramatic. Yet it IS dramatic. Am I right? I captured this image of an amazing mural from street level after spotting it from my neurologist’s office window during a recent appointment for my #tbi and #postconcussionsyndrome. I had to get a pic to share with you as I took it as a sign that was representing so many emotions at that very moment! Oh yeah, it’s my birthday! I’m gonna party like it’s my birthday! After the year I have had recovering from post concussion syndrome and a traumatic brain injury, I am so happy to turn a year older. Talk about a life changing event. I’m so happy to wake up feeling healthy and almost fully recuperated with my beautiful family next to me. I cannot wait to celebrate life! This work of art birthday cake from @flourshop will hopefully be part of my celebration of another year around the sun. And speaking of sons, this is a picture of the cake we served at my son’s birthday party! And my husband’s! It’s so good. Narnia. It totally exists. I found it. It made me

Narnia. It totally exists. I found it. It made me think some DEEP thoughts. What a wonderfully magical way to ring in 2020. It might have been my frozen fingers that potentially dropped my phone into this Narnia-like wonderland as I tried to capture this moment on the ski lift. But I managed. I felt the urge and I did it! Which brings me to my next thought. I’m not going to write a lot here this time around. New me in 2020 might equate to less time obsessing over every letter of what I post and photograph and spend more creative time and energy just sharing what I find, love, and discover. Yes, I obsess over artisans, craftsmanship and amazing makers. So be obsessed with that! Right? The younger generations don’t obsess over what they post. They just post. Perhaps too much. So this year, I’m just posting. Post on! And in this post, I’m singing the praises for our great Mother Earth. She is the greatest maker of all time. She creates such beauty at the same time she is clearly so angry and hurt by what we have done to her. When will we learn? A few days before Christmas, I went to the flower

A few days before Christmas, I went to the flower market in NYC, loaded up the car with fresh flowers and drove out to the Hamptons to decorate the house. I even baked homemade vanillekipferl after I coerced my dearest of friends @the_other_staghill and @staghill_bakes to send me their family recipe. When we lived in London a few years ago, we spent each Christmas Day together and Michael @the_other_staghill would supply our bellies with these traditional cookies. Time for me to carry on that tradition! The flowers, well that’s clearly something I just live to do. Arranging flowers and baking while playing cheesy Christmas tunes a little too loudly makes THIS spirit bright. Hoooo are you? #momjoke alert for some of my friends hoo just know me so well. I couldn’t resist posting this picture with that caption. I’ve grown up with an adopted “aunt and uncle” who loved owls so much that they filled their circa 1910 penthouse in Chicago with owls in every form. Paintings, ceramics, embroidered throw pillows, neckties - anything handcrafted with an owl was obtained and honored in their home. They were real risk takers and pioneers as they ran an advertising agency as a couple WAY before folks did that sort of thing, never had children, always had lots of dogs, rented this bonkers castle-like penthouse in the sky in Chicago right next to the famous Playboy sign. You could stand on their marble balcony with wrought iron doors and stare at it and the magnificent skyline. I’m sure it’s why I decided to study graphic design, and live in a big city. As a little girl I loved, LOVED visiting them in the “big city” whenever my family drove downtown to see them. Which was frequently and it might be the real reason I love these magnificent birds. I have to take a picture of anything with owls that I see and even though my beloved “Aunt Eleanor and Uncle Julian” have since passed, I think of them and their warmth, sense of humour and kindness every time I see an owl. Dear New York City Ballet,
I promise to see as many productions of yours as I possibly can. Last night, your production of The Nutcracker was one of the most exquisite productions I’ve ever seen. The dancing was on another level, the costumes all hand sewn and hand made by your costume department were perfection, and the staging was from another planet. It was so dreamy. I cried tears of joy. I love the ballet and I love this city. I love that I attended with my parents who came to spend time with us here and I love that our son spent the entire performance on the edge of his seat and asked me last night if we can see many more performances together like we did last night. It exists on the upper east side in NYC and it’s visionary and incredibly knowledgeable owner @brionyraymondnewyork has a collection of some of the most uniquely collectible and covetable pieces of jewelry I’ve ever seen! This is my bathtub. Almost one year ago to the day

This is my bathtub. Almost one year ago to the day, I had driven out from the city to our place in “out East” to watch the install of this gorgeous piece of marble into our master bathroom. It was a tight squeeze requiring our friend and contractor Tom @thirdwayconstruction and his stone specialist crew to carefully navigate the newly built walls and floors. Not to mention this bathtub. I mean, it’s a slice of heaven. Cozy, deep and in this magical nook. This soaking tub was a total find which I credit entirely to my husband who diligently scoured the planet for a real claw foot tub that would fit in this space. Then we had the idea that it could be painted the perfect shade of charcoal and all would be right with the world. One extra shout out to @britvic74 for knowing exactly who to call to find us marble this stunning after I shared my mood board image with her! The image had marble that wasn’t as beautiful as this! And to @fameluxurystone for having this piece of art from the earth because she has the best of the best. So yes, it’s perfect. And yes, everything truly feels right especially when you take a bath one year later after spending the morning sketching your next home reno project! Yup. We are at it again. Happy Monday to you! I’d like to invite you to read my #interiordialogue interview with this extraordinary porcelain artist. When you think ‘porcelain,’ you probably think tea cups and china. But ceramic artist Katherine Morling has thrown all of that out the window with her totally amazing porcelain sculptures . They depict inanimate objects that are given new life through drawn lines and beautiful surfaces. The London-based artist has been working on her “three-dimensional drawings” for over ten years now, perfecting this totally unique art of bringing drawings to life.

And prefect it is just what she has done! I just couldn’t believe my eyes when I first came across these pieces at Bergdorfs in NYC. I seriously stood there what must have been 15 minutes just transfixed by her work. for So graphic, so detailed and so striking! They truly encapsulate the feeling of a worn in measuring tape, or a beat up boom box. Her style is very unique, always using a black line drawing to detail the flat white porcelain surfaces to really make the pieces so eye catching. I had to know more, so I reached out to her directly. Lucky for me, she agreed to do an interview with us so I was able to ask Katherine a few questions about her process and inspiration when it comes to working with clay. Simply put, I want to be transported back here right now. How I wish I could be taking a dip in one of the largest swimming pools in the world while overlooking the Pacific Ocean and Channel Islands. This magical place is called the Coral Casino Beach and Cabana Club and it is a private membership club, situated atop Butterfly Beach at The Biltmore in Santa Barbara. This legendary landmark was built in 1937 and has a history steeped in the glory of Hollywood. I swear the entire time I was there I felt like Esther Williams! You couldn’t get me out of the pool. For days. So yes this property is magical. It also happens to have stunning architecture and one of the dreamiest, chicest swimming pools on earth. Did I mention it’s a salt water pool? Oh it was such perfection. Gah! I want to go back. Is it the best on earth? Maybe.
