Driehaus Museum Honors Chicago’s Gilded Age

>> Live

Sweet home, Chicago. I am sure most of you know that during the late 19th century, Chicago truly was at the height of its gilded age of architecture and design, which is why I’m absolutely in love with The Driehaus Museum. The restored 19th century residential house has all of style and glamour of a fabulous era that I wish we all could return to once in a while. Well, now I think we can in some ways! Originally home to banker Samuel Mayo Nickerson, the building sits just steps away from Chicago’s Museum Mile. The mansion was originally commissioned in 1879 to Burling … Continue reading >>

Landmark Trust: Why not Rent-a-Castle?

>> Live

When I first came across the non-profit organization Landmark Trust, I couldn’t quite believe it. Here’s the premise: they restore beautiful buildings all over Europe that have been neglected by the local authorities, which is amazing, but what’s even more fantastic is that these amazing properties are for rent, meaning you can literally have a vacation in a castle. How cool is that? But beyond my obsession with living out a childhood dream of being in an actual castle, the charity organization also does really amazing work. Established in 1965 by building and restoration enthusiast John Smith with his wife Christian, the foundation … Continue reading >>

New Year’s Eve at The Point

>> Live

This year I’ll be cozied up at home with the family on New Year’s Eve, but I wanted to take a moment to reminisce about one of the best New Year’s I have ever spent at The Point Resort in the Adirondacks. Stretching out over the serene Saranac Lake, this resort has all of the classic winter getaway charm, updated with beautiful cozy cabins to match the breathtaking views. It is as if you were living in Ralph Lauren’s dream boathouse. Only it is so much better. Originally built in the 1930s, the camp served as a private woodsy retreat for … Continue reading >>

The New Road Residence

>> Live

When it comes to fighting against the ubiquity of internet shopping, James Brown, founder of hip clothing boutique Hostem, is certainly putting up a good fight. After the the success of his impeccably curated Shoreditch clothing shop, Brown decided he wanted to find a new way to present his furniture and home goods selections, which lead to the opening of his latest concept store: The New Road Residence. It is a classic East London home in Whitechapel, that is decorated with a selection of high end furnishings. Here’s the twist – the house serves not only as a showroom for all of the items, which are … Continue reading >>

It’s the most wonderful time of the year.

>> Live

This is my favourite time of year. It always seems to approach faster than I expect, and it’s over before I know it. Maybe that is why I love this time of year because there is an energy about that you don’t feel at other times of the year. I also happen to love gift-giving. Not trying to sound overly cliché, but the smile on people’s faces when you hand them something that is beautifully wrapped and thoughtful means so much to me. It is not about it being expensive necessarily, although you all know by now that I think it’s worth … Continue reading >>
