Piscine Molitor: Decades of Chic

>> Explore

Well, the list of things to do in Paris just keeps growing. Of course! My latest obsession is with newly renovated Molitor. Tucked away in the 16th Arrondissement, the hotel and massive Olympic-sized pool has recently reopened after years of restoration. But what’s so fabulous about this place is not the totally chic decor of the hotel rooms, or the fabulous sunbathing deck, it’s the totally amazing history of this establishment, which goes back to the early 20th century. Originally opened in 1929 at the hight of art deco, the hotel and was designed by Lucien Pollet, and quickly became the go-to … Continue reading >>

Mi Golondrina’s Fanciful Embroideries

>> Dress

Having just been in Mexico City, I am increasingly obsessed with all things embroidered! It’s something you see everywhere – from the street markets, to high end shops, but one of my favorite iterations of this fabulous, colorful, hand-stitched embroidery is from Texas based brand, Mi Golondrina. Founder Christina Lynch learned about her Mexican heritage from her mother, and was always drawn to the bright colors and beautiful craft of embroidery. Having grown up in Texas, she was close to her mother’s roots in Torreon, Mexico, and was always immersed in the craft and beauty of the region. After moving … Continue reading >>

Interior Dialogue with Benni Frowein of Schumacher / Hamburg

>> Explore

In my seemingly endless love affair with wallpaper, Schumacher never disappoints. And heading up their team is the wonderful Benni Frowein, who as President of the company works closely with creative director Dara Caponigro to bring this historic company charging into the future with exciting new projects. And with his love for travel, along for his penchant for good design, I just had to ask him give us the inside scoop on his home city of Hamburg. “I grew up in Hamburg, but it wasn’t until I moved away that I realized what an extraordinary place it is.  Having been for centuries … Continue reading >>

Day to Night at the Whitby Hotel

>> Dine

After a day of running around and being immersed in all things design, it’s always nice to take a break and refresh, which is exactly what I did after a whirlwind tour of the fabulous Kips Bay Showhouse, popping down to the brand new Whitby Hotel for a late lunch. The Whitby Hotel is the second New York location of the Firmdale Hotel group, whose other properties include the Crosby Hotel in Soho, among others in London. I just love the way husband and wife duo Kit and Tim Kemp creates spaces – they are always fun and well designed, yet … Continue reading >>

Grand Banks Oyster Bar

>> Dine

Not sure how it has been for the rest of you, but here in NYC we have been suffering through a very cold Spring. I find myself wondering if I can ever shed my winter coat? But when I do, I know exactly where I am headed on the first warm Spring evening. I am going to let you in on the worst kept secret. It’s one of my absolute favorite neighborhood spots and it’s called the Grand Banks Oyster Bar. For the last two years this cod-schooner turned ultra chic raw bar has been docking at Pier 25 in Tribeca, and it is truly fantastic. … Continue reading >>

La Double J’s Dinner Party Tabletops

>> Dine

For those who know me, I am hardly ever caught wearing anything other than black on black with a splash of grey. But I absolutely love to mix it up with my accessories and homewares, which is why I was so excited to see the self-proclaimed queen of maximalism – La Double J. – finally come out with a tabletop line of her fabulous prints and patterns. “La DoubleJ Housewives” is a collection of Italian-made tablewares that use the same colorful, maximalist designs that founder JJ Martin became famous for in her clothes. Over their few short years, the brand has already become … Continue reading >>
